Many businesses close from 1:30 up to 4:30 as people go off to lunch in homes or the many eateries that are available. In the past, people would take a short snooze after lunch and indeed some areas in Spain still have this practice. Big stores however remain open and many people do not take the afternoon doze in the present day.
El Paseo is yet another custom in Spain that is totally delightful. El Paseo is actually a stroll. It takes place sometime in the early evenings and is practiced in many regions of Spain. It is however more practiced in towns as well as in Pueblos. The walk is old fashioned, especially considering the time we are in and that is what actually makes it even more appealing. Friends and families can be spotted walking in the evenings at a pace that is leisurely having no destination in mind. It is an activity for all age groups.
Eating out is something that Spaniards totally love. This is most especially on Sundays. Families go out for excursions and enjoy a very long lunch together. It is great way to bond. A rural venta or seaside restaurant that is informal is selected for the Sunday outings. This is a celebration of the efforts put by the country housewives of the past who started cooking for laborers who needed the meals very much. This is how the rural ventas came to be and they are even better today. The atmosphere in such places is just perfect and you may consider eating in one just for the experience.
